Earlier this month we had the pleasure of photographing Erin & Mike’s wedding. We awoke that morning with the most glorious frost. The morning light was shining off the frost-covered trees creating this surreal display of beauty. For this being such a brown winter, it sure was a delight to see some glistering white, even if it wasn’t on the ground. In the words of Erin’s father, “the Lord painted a beautiful day.” And He definitely did, from beginning to end, this day was filled with so much love, friendship, and pure emotion. Both Scott and I felt a true connection with the wedding party, and Erin and Mike were amazing to work with! The reception was held at Dellwood Hills Golf Club, and every last detail seemed perfectly in place. What a beautiful day!

Normally on an engagement session we try to photograph outdoors as much as possible, but this day freezing rain kept us indoors at the Landmark Center in St. Paul. It was a great opportunity to break out our off-camera lighting equipment, and try some fun techniques. Jen and Damon were completely natural in front of the camera, and their outfits were amazing! I loved how the dark, rich colors, and retro, vintage style went with the backdrops of the Landmark. It seemed to be a perfect combination. Now I’m really wanting a new dress from Bettie Page! Love, love, love!

After a super busy summer and fall we are finally back to blogging. I think it’s humorous that a blog is suppose to show how busy you are, and yet we’ve been too busy to blog. But, we’re back, and we plan on making our blog a priority. So, please stay tuned, and return often. Last month we had the privilege of photographing Jackie and Will’s wedding. One of my favorite things about wedding photography are all the unique ideas each couple has. At this wedding, Jackie had asked their guests to wear hats. It was so much fun seeing what some of the guests came up with. I felt like I was at a royal wedding. Another fun idea was the use of peacock feathers. They added some fun color, to what has been a brown winter. The Carlson Center was such a stunning reception venue with the twinkling lights and waterfall. What a fun day, and what an amazing couple.

Here are a couple of our favorite images from last weekend’s wedding with Kim & Mike. What I love about the first image is how Mike’s white collar connects with Kim’s veil. Without that connection the image would not be as strong. When I saw the red background at the hotel I new I had a winning backdrop for portrait. Mike is such a natural in front of the camera.

Okay….looks like our blog has been a little lonely the past few months. It’s not because we have not been busy, rather the opposite. The exciting news is we moved to Stillwater just over a month ago. We are settled now and ready to get the blog up to speed. Starting off, here is a “Thank You” card I just prepared. I love the subtle text in the corner. A classic look.

Earlier in the week Angela & Grant traveled from California to Minneapolis to finalize their wedding plans. We were able to sneak an engagement session in. Scott and I enjoyed letting our creative juices flow, and used a pedestrian tunnel for a portion of the photography. The light flooding in from the end of the tunnel made for some dramatic lighting. We enjoyed getting to know Angela & Grant better, and observed their genuine love for one another. We are looking forward to a great wedding this coming August.

I met up with Danielle and Josh at Rice Park for their engagement session this past Wednesday. It was an eventful time. At one point a security person came and told us in 5 minutes there will be thousands of kids here. We worked around the kids, the tents, and the tables. At one point even had to dodge the maintenance crew watering the flowers. Together we were able to work together to get some great shots in the park. My personal favorite is the B&W photo of them on the grass looking at Danielle’s ring. Check out the last photo however, both Danielle and Josh have the most beautiful eyes!

Scott and I joined up with our niece, Jordan, and a group of her friends who were heading to prom. I must say the dresses these ladies picked for this special event were sensational- sequins all over, chiffon, intricate bead-work, and even long trains! And I didn’t even mention all the wonderful colors! And jewelry!  The guys weren’t too shabby either, with perfectly coordinating tuxedos, and ties. Jordan, in case you didn’t hear it enough on prom, you were ravishing! We’re so proud of the beautiful, young lady you’re becoming! Here’s a peek at some of the beauties.

Scott and I had the privilege of photographing Liz and Nate’s engagement session last week at Minnehaha Falls. The sun was shining, and the buds were in full bloom! Spring has finally sprung in Minnesota! Liz and Nate are two amazing people, who have a beautiful love story. It’s so wonderful hearing how they are honoring the Lord in their relationship, and in their lives. To top it off, we were blessed with an incredible sunset! We can’t wait for their wedding next September in St. Cloud.

There are so many more photos. PLAY THE SLIDESHOW to see several more images from this engagement session.

I attended a photography seminar this April where I heard the phrase, “If you want to make something interesting, don’t light everything.” After capturing this image during the engagement session with Liz and Nate, that thought came to mind. In this image I exposed for the highlights, or the brightest part of the light. The rest of the image goes very dark, creating mystery and interest. I like it! I will have the rest of the session posted soon. You’ll see all the fun Robyn and I had with this special couple.
